Octupuz Detective: pick a look

The same room (Case 1, the study at Hollow Manor), with the same suspect and the same clues, in five looks. Every option runs in the browser. Open each one, walk around, inspect the display case, find the tiny smear on its latch, and talk to Dr Moreau.

Paper mode · every phone

no 3DPaper

The case file on your desk: an illustrated scene you tap. No 3D engine is loaded at all, so it runs on the cheapest phone.

World mode · strong phones and computers

my pickStylised-realistic

Real wood, fabric and brass, soft shadows, warm lamplight. Closest to a console game.

Low-poly

Flat colours, faceted shading, no textures. Cheapest to build and to run.

Toon / cel

Banded shading and ink outlines, like a graphic novel. Bright and readable.

Noir

Black and white, hard moonlight through the window, film grain. Pure detective mood.

How to play the preview

Computer: WASD or the arrow keys to walk, Shift to run, drag the mouse to turn the camera, E to inspect or talk.
Phone: left thumb walks, right thumb turns the camera, tap the gold button to inspect or talk.
Stand-ins: the detective and Dr Moreau are borrowed test characters, and their outfits aren't 1920s. The real cast comes from the character kit we pick next. Dr Moreau's mouth follows his voice (local Kokoro TTS).
